North Dakota Looking to Lure Ohioans with JobsAugust 13, 2009 | Tags: Economy, Jobs, Ohio, Unemployment — admin @ 10:48 amNorth Dakota wants you North Dakota was good enough for Sitting Bull, Teddy Roosevelt and the Coen brothers. How about you? North Dakota officials have undertaken an organized effort to persuade people from Ohio and elsewhere to move to what they bill as America’s friendliest state — and go to work. North Dakota has a paltry 4.6 percent unemployment rate and 9,000 job openings, according to state officials. “We’re looking to get the word out that there are jobs here,” said Jerry Chavez, president of the Minot Area Development Corp. in North Dakota. “Good jobs, professional and nonprofessional jobs.” The Minot group recently attended job fairs in Columbus and Wilmington to pitch the city and state to central Ohioans. The group left with about 125 resumes. The reason for the interest here might be as simple as the unemployment rate, which is 11.1 percent in Ohio. There are 662,000 Ohioans out of work, which is about 20,000 more than the population of North Dakota. At any given time, most states have thousands of job openings but dozens of qualified and unemployed state residents for each. Not so in North Dakota, one of the few states to actively recruit outside its borders. 11 Comments »RSS feed for comments on this post. TrackBack URL Leave a comment |
It’s very sad when the US economy is SO BAD that the States have to fight each other over what little money is left and what few jobs remain.
VOTE OUT EVERY MEMBER of Congress (Republican or Democrat) who voted for the ‘bailout’ or the ‘stimulus’ or ‘health care’ or ‘cap and trade’.
And then vote FOR John KASICH.

States are always fighting each other for businesses and jobs. This has been going on for decades, it just seems that few in Ohio seem to get it. Mr. Kasich will have my support because he does understand that states are competing, and that right now Ohio is doing so with one hand tied behind its back. We need to make the state more business-friendly.
